Charles Richard Crane (1858-1939) – politician, diplomat, industrialist, philanthropist. In 1913-1918 he represented the USA in various missions in Russia. He was fond of Russian culture, purchased in Moscow the bells of the belfry of the St. Danilov Monastery for Harvard University, which returned to Russia in 2007. He had works by V.V. Vereshchagin, N.K. Roerich and others in his collection.
