The world-famous singer is pictured as Ivan the Terrible, a role he performed in N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera The Maid of Pskov. The opera was first staged at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1901.

In 1915, F.I. Chaliapin made his film debut in this role.
