A rocaille gold snuffbox with a hinged lid fitted with a thumb piece. The sides are decorated with chased C-scrolls and floral decor set against a matted background. Centered on the lid is a chased composition executed after a design by Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier, depicting two putti seated inside a scallop shell and playing with a rocaille shell. This central scene is framed by an ornamental border of shells and C-scrolls, complemented by two figures of marine creatures with fish tails holding shells aloft in their raised hands. The shell motifs are further embellished with diamond insets. A large rocaille shell motif, enclosed within an ornamental border, is featured on the base. Large diamond decorates the thumb piece.
