Stamped with the maker's mark of D.-F. Poitreau; the charge and discharge marks of the fermiers généraux (tax collectors) Éloi Brichard and Étienne Somfoy for the period 1756–1762; the Paris date letter "S" for 1758–1759; a discharge mark of the fermier général Julien Alaterre for 1768–1774; a French eagle's head control mark; and an unidentified rectangular punch mark, possibly containing the letters "G Z" (in mirror image) "O", struck twice
Gold snuff box of rectangular form, featuring a hinged lid. The exterior surfaces of the sides, lid, and base are decorated with a sunburst engine-turned (guilloché) pattern, further detailed with centrally placed, applied bouquets of flowers. Individual floral sprigs adorn the corners of the lid. The silhouette of the snuff box is accentuated by a wavy, undulating border.
