Stamped twice on the interior with the maker's mark "A.A.H" within a lozenge. Stamped on the rim with a French assay mark depicting a rooster with the number "3" within an oval; a rubbed, illegible mark; and a Paris guarantee mark featuring the numbers "8" and "5", corresponding to the period 1798–1809
Gold snuff box of rectangular form with rounded corners, featuring a hinged lid with a thumb piece. The exterior surfaces of the lid and base are decorated with rectangular engine-turned panels featuring wavy and lozenge patterns, framed by a chased border of foliate elements against a matted (punched) ground. A similar frieze adorns the sides of the lid. The side panels are filled with a zigzag engine-turned pattern, with the corners decorated with foliate elements. The thumb piece is modelled as a stylized shell.
