Stamped with the maker's mark "FGT" below a crowned fleur-de-lis, a star, and two grains; the Paris date letter for 1756–1757 (a crowned letter "Q"); and the charge and discharge marks of the fermiers généraux (tax collectors) Éloi Brichard and Étienne Somfoy for the period 1756–1762
Gold snuff box of rectangular form, featuring a hinged lid. The exterior surfaces of the sides and the hinged lid are decorated with shaped enamel plaques depicting tavern scenes and rustic country life, executed after compositions by the Flemish genre painter David Teniers, the Younger (1610–1690). The remaining surfaces are filled with a stylized foliate and geometric pattern, partially accented in blue enamel.
