Gold snuff box of shaped Rocaille form, featuring a hinged lid. The exterior of the lid is chased in high relief with a scene depicting an inner courtyard with staffage figures and a monumental staircase decorated with urns and caryatids; a fountain rises in the foreground. The composition is enclosed within a moulded frame adorned with acanthus leaves. The sides of the snuff box are decorated with Rococo floral and foliate ornament composed of flower sprigs, shells, C-scrolls, cartouches, trellis-work, and wave motifs. The base features a shaped cartouche with a trellis pattern inside, enclosed by a border incorporating six shells. The interior of the lid is engraved with a medallion centering a stylized castle under a crown, encircled by the motto of the British Order of the Bath: "Tria juncta in uno", and accompanied by the star of the order.
