Sculpted figure of a resting Samoyed dog is positioned on rectangular plinth. Its head rests on the left paw, while the right paw is tucked underneath her. Samoyed dogs are frequently featured in the works of Troubetzkoy, who admired the absence of hunting instinct in these ancient Northern dogs. While figures of dogs are not uncommon in the sculptor’s oeuvre, he more frequently depicted them alongside their owners. This particular study was incorporated into the composition "Boy with a Dog" with almost no alterations.
