F.I. Chaliapin sang the role of Boris Godunov in several productions of M.P.
Mussorgsky’s opera of the same name. In 1898 he first performed the role at the
Solodovnikov Theatre in Moscow (later the Moscow Operetta Theatre). The
photograph shown here dates from that period.
