Maker’s mark: VB within a lozenge; assay (guarantee) mark in the form of a child’s head with the fineness number "2" (20.5 carats); Paris small guarantee mark for 1809–1819; engraved: "N . 102 E" and stamped: "293" (the number 9 is struck over 8)
Rectangular gold snuffbox with a hinged lid. Set on the lid against a matted ground is an applied monogram of Emperor Napoleon I (the letter "N" surmounted by the imperial crown) set with diamonds, within a translucent blue enamel border decorated with chased foliate motifs. The sides are decorated with rectangular panels outlined in blue enamel and filled with engine-turned (guilloché) patterns. The base features an engine-turned rectangular central panel enclosed by blue enamel border with chased foliate designs. Accompanied by its original green leather case, the lid gold-tooled with the imperial coat of arms.
